| NAUTILOS - Citizen Science Low-cost drifters for marine litter coastal monitoring
| This project utilizes traditional marine litter to create drifters equipped with electronic devices for analyzing sea routes. The use of ordinary litter provides a realistic model for studying ocean currents, while also being cost-effective and easily assembled by makers, associations, and schools. The drifters feature solar panels for energy and transmit data via GSM. The project aims to enhance monitoring efforts and raise awareness about marine litter in alignment with the Marine Strategy Framework Directive. The drifters are equipped with self-sustaining solar panels and transmit data through the GSM network. | This dataset encompasses the detection of red fluorescent microspheres (uvpms_by) within the size range of 48-51 µm. The detection and analysis of the red fluorescence signal were conducted using microplastic detector photodiode (PD) channels 4, 5, and 6, each equipped with red fluorescence filters. These photodiodes have different signal gains, facilitating a broader dynamic range of detection. The timetrace data of the PD signals were captured and subsequently filtered using a low-pass filter. The timetrace data exhibited peaks corresponding to the presence of red microplastic particles in the measured sample. A peak-finding algorithm was employed to identify all peaks within the data. The dataset includes consecutive event numbers, representing peaks identified across all target channels (4, 5, and 6). Events detected in only a subset of these channels were excluded from the dataset. For each event, the amplitude (measured in the ADC sample range of 0-4095) and the width (measured in the number of samples) of the peak are reported. | CNR-IRBIM implemented the \"AdriFOOS\" observational system, by installing the FOOS on some commercial fishing boats operating in the Adriatic Sea. Since then the datacenter based in Ancona receives daily data sets of environmental parameters collected along the water column and close to the sea bottom (eg. temperature, salinity, etc.), together with GPS haul tracks, catch amounts per haul, target species sizes and weather information.
